Schilderkunst - De Kunstwedstrijd
CC Zwaneberg, Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium
November 21 - December 21, 2025
The painting Dijon was born on a sun-drenched August afternoon in 2024, during a road trip from Belgium to the Côte d'Azur. Passing through the historic Burgundian capital, Hilde Goossens was stopped in her tracks by an old office building whose hexagonal windows gave it the appearance of a giant beehive. The light that day was fierce and unrelenting, throwing deep shadows across the facade and dissolving its architectural detail into something almost otherworldly.
Back in the studio, Goossens worked the memory of that light onto canvas with a loose, suggestive brushwork. The palette leans into purples and pinks, warm beige and ochre, and touches of blue. Rather than documenting the building, she painted the sensation of it. The result sits on the boundary between figuration and abstraction, where architecture dissolves into colour and atmosphere.
Dijon was selected for De Kunstwedstrijd Schilderkunst 2025, a bi-annual painting competition and exhibition organised by the Cultuurraad of Heist-op-den-Berg and Cultuurcentrum Zwaneberg.
